The Trophy Wine Show, sponsored by Investec, is South Africa’s premier wine competition. The show aims to help showcase the flourishing Cape wine industry, highlighting the achievements of our local winemakers, and helping acknowledge wines that compete on the international circuit.
It’s a highlight of the year for local wine enthusiasts, and the 2022 celebration was particularly poignant, as this is the first time we’ve been able to celebrate with an international panel of judges since the beginning of the pandemic. Chaired by leading wine authority Michael Fridjhon, this year’s panel consisted of six local and three international judges, each renowned for their wine expertise.
The field was tight this year, with 673 wines eligible for entry. For a Louisvale Wine to be recognized in this prestigious field was a treat indeed.

Our Louisvale Limited Edition Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a vintage we’re particularly proud of, so having this recognition added to the table was a win for the entire Louisvale family. While we’re best known for our Cape Chardonnay, our Cabernet Sauvignons have become another niche we love exploring.
The 2018 vintage is a unique and meticulously handcrafted wine, aged in French Oak for 18 months before release. With rich hints of ripe black fruit and a particularly pleasing structure to the tannins, it carries just enough oakiness to tantalise without overwhelming. It’s been described as full-bodied, with a long, elegant finish and well-structured textures for the tongue.
If you’re looking for the perfect accompaniment to this delicious wine- though it’s perfect served alone to relax after a long day, too- we suggest a rich red meat. Local grass-fed beef will be perfect to bring out its undertones and hidden flavours. Our vegetarian friends will like a heavy, smokey mushroom like a portobello, or a smokey cheese.
From jazzing up a simple burger meal, to showcasing the best of your aged prime beef, this is a wine that holds its own no matter what you throw at it.
