Louisvale excels at Robert
Parker Tasting
In the most recent publishing of Robert Parker’s The
Wine Advocate (Issue 159, released 6/30/2005)
Louisvale’s reputation for quality Chardonnays, was
firmly confirmed. The three different styles of
Chardonnays produced were rated 86 and higher by
Parker’s top wine consultant, Pierre Rovani.
The Louisvale Reserve Chardonnay 2003 received
89 points – one of the highest-rated South African
Chardonnays and the Louisvale flagship wine. It was
described as: “Aged for 9 months in half new and half 1
year old French oak barrels, it is a fabulous value. Its
complex nose reveals aromas of white fruits and buttered
toast. Medium-bodied, rich, and extremely well made,
this suave, spicy wine offers Meursault-like flavors of
hazelnuts, poached pears, and notes of spicy oak in a
beautifully balanced, harmonious style. In addition, its
long, seamless finish displays notes of melon, vanilla
and hints of candied limes. Drink it over the next 2-3
years.”
The Louisvale Chavant 2004 (now introduced as
“Lightly Oaked”) received 86 points. It was described
as: “Aged for 4 months in French oak barrels (50% new,
50% 1 year old) and reveals a nose of vanilla bean and
toast. A fine value, it is light-bodied, lively,
easygoing, and displays oak spice-laden apples as well
as citrus fruit flavors. Incidentally, a donation is
made towards breast cancer research for every bottle of
this wine that is sold. It should be drunk over the next
year.”
The Louisvale Unwooded Chardonnay 2005
received 87 points – better than any other current South
African Chardonnay and best under $15 South African
Chardonnay ever. It was described as: “Flowers and white
fruits are found in the delightfully pure aromas. On the
palate, yellow plums, melon balls, and notes of apple
can be discerned in its light-bodied, flavorful
personality. Simple, refreshing, and fun, this is a
wonderful value for quaffing over the summer months.
Drink it over the next year.”
