about a hundred years ago.
Like much of the Devon Valley, the
estate was originally planted with table fruit.
The first vines were planted in 1985, under the
supervision of Jan Boland Coetzee. Hans Froehling and
Leon Stemmet bought the property in 1988.
The first vintage was 1989. The first winemaker was
Neil Ellis. He was succeeded by Marinus Bredell in the
mid-1990s. Since 1997 the winemaker has been Simon
Smith.
